The period is Covid-19, I and my friend decided just to take some fresh air and some photographs around Madurai. So, we decided to explore this hills. Small disclaimer — we understand this is very important historical place but we do not have much knowledge about it. We only went there to explore and chill.

In the beginning, you will see a small temple underneath the hills, a very peaceful temple. Although Madurai Tourism is trying to promote this place for tourism, since this is very far from Madurai, it hasn’t developed to the tourism level. People who like explorations, has interest in history or just chill for fresh air, come here.

This is the beginning of steps — As we know the Madurai has a very hot weather, it is recommended to take a bottle of water. The hills seems very short, but it has some considerable explorations on the top of hill and you can spend more time, if you have the energy well.

When we were climbing up, we also noticed many were climbing down. Some were coming as walking/fitness, some were like dad-son time, some came as a group as well. This photograph I clicked, imaging myself in some years.
(Note — my son is 2 years old)

This is the first moment you will see at this place — a nice lotus pond, with fishes, a temple underneath a beautiful hill.

After climbing up a little, it was an amazing moment, I could see the world famous temple — Meenakshi Amman temple from here. This photograph is shot in 50mm lens, cropped a bit.

The aerial view of surrounding put me to awestruck state — like I could clearly see the Thiruparankundram hill, which is my another favourite photogenic place.

As I mentioned, a community of people also came there and they were playing game called KOKO. And the second photograph is the tail end of Nagamalai hill.

This is what you will see once you reach first milestone after the steps. There is a strong history background for this place. But for the explorer seekers, you can also climb up and witness some beautiful boulders.

Beautiful Boulders — It’s sunny in the climbing side, but the other side was shadowy and lot of wind. If you are with friends, you can just sit and chill, while witnessing this beautiful view. We could see flying birds, flying eagle, flying peacock — all from ABOVE.

If you have a thought you don’t need a water bottle, this picture can convince you :) it was bloody hot, while coming back.

I fell love in photography at first via minimal photography only. So, it was always there in my heart and that’s how I see things.

Small photography tip — At the top, you will see some water stagnated. Lower your camera and experiment the shot, you will get this beautiful reflection with neat sky.

If you actually came for history, there is another place enrich with history, below and behind the hill. But, as we expected, we found broken bottles and urine samples sadly :(

The lotus pond had fishes in unimaginable size. I have seen such sizes in aquarium but not in real and free. Some of them even looked like whales lol
